Historically, YES! Cherokee does/has offered field trips. And as a matter of fact we have many ideas that we are attempting to put into play this year. We even had a young camper tour our facility this winter and she gave us some wonderful feedback and some great ideas for potential field trips!

However, the day camp landscape has changed the last few years, as has the economic challenges that face the American consumer. As the new management team we are very, very focussed on the experience of our campers  and the expectations of their parents. Last year, when asked, parents overwhelmingly were more concerned about the over all experience and variety of activities rather than field trips. Thus, we put our energies into the new pool and renovation of an old pool, the addition of the Wii Lab, the addition of the two new projection theaters, the new boating/fishing/sporting equipment, the eradication of goose droppings in our fields, etc. It was our experience that the parents were happy so long as the children's experience was engaging, exercized both mind and body and was FUN! FUN! FUN! We heard that not having to make an extra expenditure was preferable. We did have a walking trip to a local 7/11 store. The parents provided $1.00 for a snack purchase and children were advised on consumer purchases and counting change, etc. Additionally, our campers were guests at the Newtown Cinema where only Cherokee Campers received a personal tour and viewing of a film! Furthermore, there were a few other trips that the children enjoyed. However, we are looking at a few new trip options and we will make our decision based on cost, availability and necessity (e.g. a projection of two weeks of rain would force our hands).

Like last year, we welcome your input!
